Back in the days when artists released vinyl 45 RPM singles with an A-side and a B-side, Phil Collins would sometimes put demo versions of his hit songs on the B-side. Now those recordings will be made available on digital download and streaming services for the very first time with the release of two new collections - Other Sides and Remixed Sides. Both compilations build on the expanded and remastered deluxe editions recently released for all eight of his acclaimed solo studio albums.
Set for release on May 31st, Other Sides, is a digital-only collection that includes B-sides from 1981 through 2003 that were not previously included in any of the album reissues. Among the tracks the demo versions of Collins’ hits “In the Air Tonight,” “I Missed Again” and “Another Day in Paradise,” the latter under its original name, “Homeless.”
Remixed Sides will include extended and remixed versions of tracks from his studio albums, several making their digital debut. The album features 18 different mixes of album tracks like Collins’ #1 hits “Sussudio” and “One More Night.” Extended mixes are also featured for, “Take Me Home,” “Don’t Lose My Number,” and “Something Happened On The Way To Heaven.” The collection highlights multiple versions of “In The Air Tonight” and “Wear My Hat,” as well as four versions of Collins’ 1990 single “Hang In Long Enough.”
Both collections explore different areas of Collins’ extraordinary solo career, which now spans more than three decades and has earned the drummer, singer, composer and producer a massive seven Grammy Awards as a solo artist.
A track from each collection is available now. From Other Sides: “The Man With The Horn” (which was the B-side of Phil’s 1985 #1 hit “One More Night”), and from Remixed Sides: “The Roof Is Leaking” off his debut solo album Face Value (Nicka’s Stella Polaris Interpretation). Listen below.
