The multi-(mega)-talented, Todd Rundgren’s ninth studio album, Healing was released 40 years ago this week. As the title suggests, the album contains some of the artist’s most spiritually inspired works, combining elegant balladry with sparkling pop to create a meditative collection; with the power to make you smile and tap along while pondering the depths of the human condition. 

Along with being a standout moment in Rundgren’s catalogue to date, Healing launched him into the MTV decade with its lead singles, “Time Heals” and “Compassion” – the former one of the eighth video to air on MTV during its launch on August 1, 1981.

It was also a bold declaration of prodigal talent on the artist’s behalf, with Rundgren performing the suites of singer-songwriter-producer-instrumentalist on all nine tracks of the album! Here he is giving a spellbinding live performance of Healing’s the biggest single, “Compassion” which spotlights his memorizing dynamics.
