Rick Astley’s massive 1987 pop hit, Never Gonna Give You Up, the one that spawned the global Rickrolling craze –  has this week joined the super exclusive YouTube Billion Views Club.

Anyone who has been on the Internet since 2007 is probably familiar with the phenomenon of ‘Rickrolling’. For those who aren’t: the term refers to an online prank where the URL for Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up is disguised as a different link. Users click on the link expecting something else but get rickrolled instead. Even YouTube joined in on the fun when they automatically Rickrolled every user who clicked on a video from the site’s main page for an April Fools Day prank in 2008.

Now, it seems Astley has the last laugh as the song join the likes of A-Ha’s Take On Me, Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and just a handful of others to secure the impressive milestone

“Amazing, crazy, wonderful!” Astley said of the achievement, in a video posted to social media.
