Legendary Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant and singer-songwriter-extraordinaire Alison Krauss have appeared on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ this week to perform new tracks from the brand new collaborative album Raise the Roof, which arrived last week (Nov. 19). 

Following up to their critically acclaimed 2007 LP ‘Raising Sand’, the new album features classic covers of songs by the likes Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, The Everly Brothers, and more; alongside originals like High and Lonesome, which was written by Plant and producer T-Bone Burnett.

The duo performed two tracks from ‘Raise the Roof’ on Colbert, including the bluesy Krauss-led Trouble With My Lover, with their all-star band. Watch below.

They also performed their cover of Can’t Let Go which was originally penned by Randy Weeks and recorded by Lucinda Williams in 1998. Plant and Krauss exemplify the rich harmonies that make their union so captivatingly symbiotic. Watch below.

Recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios, sessions for Raise The Roof began in late 2019 and wrapped just weeks before the world went into lockdown. Like Raising Sand, T Bone Burnett produced the collection, which delivers a cosmic collision of early blues, country deep cuts, revolutionary folk-rock and lost soul music written by legends and unsung heroes like Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, The Everly Brothers, Anne Briggs, Geeshie Wiley, Bert Jansch, Ola Belle Reed, Brenda Burns and more.

Coinciding with the album release, the duo announced their first tour dates in 12 years. Starting in June next year, the run of dates so far takes in North America and Europe before wrapping in July. Let's hope some Aussie dates are added soon!
