Queen Elizabeth's New Year Honours list has been announced and includes Mr. Richard Starkey MBE, otherwise known as the legendary Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, who has been named a Knight Bachelor for his contribution to music.

The announcement was met with congratulations from fellow Beatle and Knight, Sir Paul McCartney.

McCartney was Knighted in 1997, whilst the Beatles received MBE's in 1965.

Worth noting, in 2003 David Bowie turned down the offer of Knighthood stating "It’s not what I spent my life working for.” Bold, but so Bowie!
