35 years ago this week, Phil Collins hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with “Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now).”  It was his third solo Top Ten single here in Australia where it peaked at #3 for four straight weeks during June 1984.

Of course, it was the title song from the Taylor Hackford film - released 35 years ago this week -  Against All Odds, a romantic thriller starring Rachel Ward and Jeff Bridges. The film also featured music by Big Country, Kid Creole & the Coconuts, Stevie Nicks and Genesis.

Produced by Arif Mardin, “Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)” held the top spot for three weeks in the US, and went on to win a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, while being nominated for both Oscar and Golden Globe awards.

The ultimate power ballad, we dare you to not sing along and play air drums!

It was the first of seven U.S. #1’s scored by Collins in his solo career.
