The Songs Of John Prine: Part One

Posted

He’s never had a hit, but John Prine is one of those singer-songwriters that other singer-songwriters love, and that other singers love to cover. No one combines wit and the truth quite like him. Ever since Kris Kristofferson discovered him and produced his 1971 debut for Atlantic – Prine was a postie in Chicago and playing the folk circuit on the side when Kristofferson first heard him – an endless stream of notable others have been recording his songs.

In the first of what will be a semi-regular feature highlighting Prine’s songs, let’s check out the Zac Brown Band’s brand new cover of "All The Best", and a 1974 live version of Bonnie Raitt’s great cover of "Angel from Montgomery".

If you want to check out John Prine himself it’s all on Spotify. So many great songs. Click here and enjoy.
