A Californian crowd was treated to a very special performance over the weekend when Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and The Earthlings, featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith and former RHCP member and current Pearl Jam touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, welcomed some very special guests to the stage to perform their biggest hits.
It’s been the running theme of Vedder’s Earthling tour, which also saw him introduce Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagen to the stage for n extended run through Pretenders’ Precious in Seattle last week.
Friday night (Feb 25th) Vedder and his all-star band had Police's own drummer, Stewart Copeland behind the kit for a rocking cover of one of the band’s biggest hits, Message In A Bottle. Smith moved to guitar for the song. Watch below.

Vedder also brought out Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Benmont Tench for renditions of both Petty’s 1999 track Room at the Top and 1981’s The Waiting. Watch below.

A massively expanded reissue of Tom Petty’s 1994 LP Wildflowers & All the Rest uncovered a treasure trove of alternate arrangements, studio outtakes and demos that didn’t make it onto what was originally intended to be a double album.
Last year, an even deeper dive into the sessions with Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions), which was part of the deluxe package, was released on limited-edition gold vinyl and streaming. Check it out here.
