Since playing to live audiences is not an option at this point, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have used the power of the internet to perform together, apart – with each member playing from their own homes during the coronavirus lockdown. The band chose to perform “Light of Day” for fans, which was the title track for the 1987 movie that starred Joan Jett herself, alongside Michael J. Fox.

The Bruce Springsteen track first appeared in the film that saw Jett and Fox play siblings fronting a fictional band from Cleveland called the Barbusters. The song appeared on the soundtrack and reached #33 on the charts. “Light of Day” has been a regular addition to Joan Jett’s live set ever since. Check out the classic scene below.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are currently still booked for a massive summer stadium run in the US, opening for Def Leppard, Poison and the recently reunited Motley Crue. The tour is supposed to launch in June, but at this point will likely be postponed like many other upcoming tours in 2020.

To make up for the sudden lack of live music in our lives right now, many artists have been performing for fans from their homes in recent weeks, including Brian Wilson, Graham Nash, Neil Young and many, many more.

This week has also come with the sad news that Alan Merril, frontman of 70s pop-rock band, the Arrows who wrote and originally performed Joan Jett’s definitive hit, “I Love Rock N Roll.” Read more about Alan Merril’s incredible life and career here.
