WIERD: The Al Yankovich Story has been previewed with a new official trailer featuring Madonna, who is portrayed in the film by Evan Rachel Wood.
The clip sheds some light on the film’s plot, showing a young Weird Al Yankovic (Daniel Radcliffe) defying his parents to follow his parody dreams. Crafting one of his earliest hits, My Bologna in the studio with his bandmates, Yankovic meets Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood), who asks him if he plans to parody one of her songs. The clip shows the pair engage in bouts of alcohol-fuelled partying that even has Dr. Demento (Rainn Wilson), a California radio host warning Yankovic that “Madonna is a bad influence” on him but, as you might expect from a biopic about one of the world’s greatest parody masters, the line between fact and fiction is undoubtedly thin.
In May, Radcliffe told Uproxx, “Wearing the Hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly. I’m honoured to finally share with the world the absolutely 100 per cent unassailably true story of Weird Al’s depraved and scandalous life.”
“In front of all the billions of people watching all around the world right now, all I want to say is be as weird as you want to be,” Yankovic says in the trailer. “You will never find true happiness until you can truly accept who you are.”
Yankovic himself appears briefly in the trailer as a record company executive - check it out below!
