Gorillaz have celebrated their 20th anniversary as a band this year with a steady release of tasty collaborations, which culminated with the release their Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez album, which arrived with an incredible amount of bonus material, last Friday.

Now band leader, Damon Albarn has said that there is a second edition of Song Machine already in the works and there’s a feature-length film coming with it!

Speaking with Radio.com, as part of their New Arrival series, Albarn said:

“Well, we are supposed to be making a film while we’re doing season two. We signed contracts, we’ve begun scripts and stuff. Making an animated film that’s kind of abstract is quite a big risk for a movie studio because they’re very expensive. If you’re telling a slightly obtuse story that only sometimes makes any sense, it’s quite difficult. That’s what we’ve discovered.”

Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez is a truly star-studded affair! Collaborators include Elton John, Joy Division/New Order bassist, Peter Hook, St. Vincent, Beck and more! The album’s title track, “Strange Timez” features Cure frontman, Robert Smith on vocals and paints an eerie picture of the year that’s been.
