Today is Slash's birthday and to celebrate we're going to take a look at five essential listening tracks from the man in the hat.

Best known for his huge solos in Guns N' Roses, it would be silly of us to start anywhere else.

Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses

An instantly recognisable classic off their iconic debut album, Appetite For Destruction. It was a #1 hit in the US and reached the top 5 pretty much all over the world in 1989. Ironically, Slash has been quoted as saying he really dislikes this song despite it being the band's most successful.

Fall To Pieces - Velvet Revolver

A ballad from their debut album, Contraband, released in 2004. The song is about singer Scott Weiland's difficult relationships with drugs and his wife.

Rocket Queen - Guns N' Roses

Another ripper from Appetite For Destruction. Slash claims in his autobiography that Duff wrote this song, however, Axl also claims to have written it about a girl he was dating.

Slither - Velvet Revolver

This song won a Grammy in 2005 for Best Hard Rock Performance. The video was shot in Prague.

By The Sword - Slash ft Andrew Stockdale

One of Slash's solo works that was played on record by a supergroup including Aussie's own Andrew Stockdale from Wolfmother on vocals, Chris Chaney from Jane's Addiction on bass and John Freese from Devo on drums.
