After being twice postponed due to the pandemic, Alanis Morrissette's Grammy and Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill, inspired by her seminal 1995 album of the same name, will now land in Sydney in December this year.
Jagged Little Pill tells the story of a suburban family, the Healy’s, whose picture-perfect facade is threatened by events that shake the community, forcing the family to choose between “maintaining the status quo or facing harsh truths about themselves, their community, and the world around them.”
The smash-hit production takes its emotional lead from the revered singer-songwriter’s groundbreaking album, inspired by the gloriously angsty lyrical themes of beloved hits like You Oughta Know, Hand In My Pocket, and Ironic which all feature in the exhilarating stage show. Morissette has also penned two brand-new songs just for the soundtrack.
Morissette worked on the music with fellow Grammy-winner Glen Ballard, who co-wrote and produced Jagged Little Pill with Alanis in the 90s, and Oscar-winner Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully) collaborated on the story. The all-star creative team is completed by director (and Tony Award-winner) Diane Paulus (Pippin), choreographer by Award-winner Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and musical direction by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winner Tom Kitt.
The Australian run of dates stars the critically acclaimed Australian performers Natalie Bassingthwaighte of Rogue Traders, Tim Draxl, Maggie McKenna and AYDAN as well as introducing newcomers Emily Nkomo, Liam Head and Grace Miell. Watch a teaser trailer below!

It’s hard to believe Alanis was only 21 when she released one of the highest-selling albums of all time. With the confident naivety of youth, she bared her psyche without restraint to create something deeply personal, universally inclusive and supremely catchy. No one could have predicted the full force of the cultural phenomenon that had just been unleashed with Jagged Little Pill in June of 1995, nor the relevance it still holds over two decades later.
