It sounds like the mayor of Akron, Ohio is a Devo fan…

Devo formed in Akron back in 1973. They are among the 16 bands nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2021 and to help whip up support for local heroes, town mayor Dan Horrigan has issued a proclamation declaring April 1st DEVO Day.

“The City of Akron has an unbelievable sense of pride, especially when it involves the success of our people,” Horrigan said. “We are, and will continue to be, immensely proud to be the home of DEVO and will be rallying this great community to help them achieve the recognition they deserve.”

The month-long campaign is a push to generate fan-votes for the band who, as of Thursday, April 1st, currently hold 8th place. There will also be 50 sculptures of tiered tires painted red to resemble the band’s iconic energy dome hats “mysteriously appearing” around the city featuring a QR code that will take fans straight to the  Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s voting website. See here.

And to top it all off, according to the city’s website, “Downtown Akron corridor will become a location for fans to interact with life-size cutouts of DEVO.”

Amazing.
