The nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2021 have been announced – and it makes for a wonderfully eclectic shortlist!

The 16 nominees up for the prestigious honour include pop icon’s like Kate Bush, Carole King and the Go-Go’s, heavy metal pioneers, Iron Maiden, New Wave disruptors Devo and heavy hitters like Rage Against The Machine

Rounding out the list is New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, Mary J. Blige, Jay Z, Chaka Khan, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J and Dionne Warwick

In order to qualify for nomination, the artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before their first nomination (1995), making Foo Fighters and Jay-Z the only nominees this year to appear on the ballot in their first year of eligibility.

Iron Maiden, Fela Kuti, The Go-Go’s, Carole King and Dionne Warwick are among the first time nominees; whereas Carole King has previously been inducted as a songwriter, Tina Turner was welcomed alongside Ike Turner in 1991 and Dave Grohl as a member of Nirvana in 2014.

The voting body is made up of over 1,000 artists, historians, and music industry members, as well as the fan vote – fans can vote daily, from today through to April 30th via the Rock Hall website – here.

The Class of 2021 will be announced in May and inducted at a ceremony that will take place in Cleveland later this year.
