Green Day has given us a taste of something new in a series of teaser clips that the band have dubbed “1972” – see below.
Whether it’s the title of a new song or, as one fan suggested in the comments, a reference to the year all three band members – Billy Armstrong, Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt – were born, meaning the band is in for a whirlwind year of 50th birthday celebrations!
The first of the mysterious clips were shared last month, starting with the band recording at London’s RAK Studio as the numbers “1972” flash across the screen, followed by Armstrong strumming an acoustic guitar in a split-screen with emotive black and white imagery running backwards in the second clip, the numbers “1972” also featuring. The latest clip finds the band jamming in a rehearsal studio before bassist, Mike Dirnt sprays the numbers “1972” on the wall.
