Earlier this year, indie rockers Weezer got riffing on their own metal-inspired Van Weezer album (see here). 

Now, they have shared a cover of Metallica’s Enter Sandman, the most famous song from the metal legends 1991 self-titled LP, commonly known as The Black Album – not to be confused with Weezer’s own Black Album from 2019.

Weezer’s cover of the metal classic comes from an upcoming 30th anniversary next month tribute collection titled The Metallica Blacklist, featuring 53 “unique interpretations” of songs from The Black Album from a wide range of artists.  

Rivers Cuomo and co. deliver a faithful rendition of The Black Album classic, with a clever nod to their own mega-hit Buddy Holly thrown in the mix. Check it out below:

Weezer | ‘Enter Sandman’ from The Metallica Blacklist

Weezer rarely shies away from a cover opportunity. In 2018, the indie rockers responded to a fan-driven internet campaign with a joyous cover of Toto’s Africa. It was a hit, landing the 1982 single back in the Billboard Hot 100 and inspiring an entire covers album from Weezer, The Teal Album which saw them take on everyone from TLC to Black Sabbath with equal authenticity.
