In case you missed it… Kate Bush has been dominating charts around the world for the better past month with her 1985 Hounds of Love hit, Running Up That Hill after it featured in a pivotal scene in the latest season of Stranger Things.

Now, the pop icon has reached a new career peak with the song officially hitting number one on the UK singles chart, ending a 10+ week run at number one for fellow UK pop star Harry Styles – who wasn’t even born when Running Up That Hill was first released!
It’s only the second time Bush has ever held the top spot on the UK singles chart. Her first number one came in 1978 when Wuthering Heights debuted in the top spot. It was a record-breaking achievement at the time, making Bush the first-ever female artist to hit number one on the singles chart with a self-penned track. Now, with 44 years between, she has broken another record for the longest-ever gap between number one singles.
Of the song’s recent resurgence in popularity, 37 years after its release, Bush commented, “I’m overwhelmed by the scale of affection and support the song is receiving and it’s all happening really fast, as if it’s being driven along by a kind of elemental force. I have to admit I feel really moved by it all.”
She also gave praise to the creators of Stranger Things, saying, “I salute the Duffer Brothers for their courage – taking this new series into a much more adult and darker place. I want to thank them so much for bringing the song into so many people’s lives.”
She concluded her statement by saying, “Thank you so very much for making the song a No 1 in such an unexpected way.”

According to Spotify charts in both the UK and the US, Running Up That Hill was also the most streamed track on the planet last week after earning 57million streams in just one week. And, in the US, it’s currently at number one on the Billboard Global 200 chart, giving Bush her biggest ever hit in America to date.
“By featuring ‘Running Up That Hill’ in such a positive light – as a talisman for Max (one of the main female characters) – the song has been brought into the emotional arena of her story,” Bush said. “Fear, conflict and the power of love are all around her and her friends.”
