While there has never been anything specifically “grunge” about Batman, the character has always attracted fans with an intrigue for the dark and gritty side, making Nirvana’s eerie Nevermind closer, “Something In The Way” the perfect soundtrack for the latest Matt Reeves-directed instalment of the gritty superhero franchise.

In the first teaser trailer below, Kurt Cobain's desolate lyrics intertwine with Michael Giacchino’s luscious orchestral movie score as the iconic acoustic track leads us back to the dystopian streets Gotham City once again.

As Stereogum notes, Nirvana sync’s are historically rare. Before Kurt Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love released her inherited share of his publishing rights in 2006, there were virtually no traces of Nirvana’s music in modern pop culture. These days they have become a little more prevalent, for the right project, but are still notoriously difficult to obtain, making this pairing all the more special.

The Batman – starring Robert Pattinson as Batman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Zo Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Paul Dano as The Riddler – will arrive in theatres in 2021.
