The ‘Super Deluxe Edition’ takes the deepest dive yet, bringing fans all the audio material that Prince officially released in and around 1982, as well as 23 previously unissued studio tracks recorded between November 1981 and January 1983. The box set is made up of five CDs and ten 180g vinyl records;  a DVD of Prince’s 1999 tour stop at the Houston Summit on December 29, 1982; Prince’s previously unseen handwritten lyrics for several songs from the era, including “Little Red Corvette,” plus images of the analogue tape reels from the vault and rare photography from Prince’s early ‘80s photographer, Allen Beaulieu

Duff McKagen previously told Classic Rock magazine that he was "turned on to Prince" sometime around 1980: "Everybody has that record that 'saved their life,' and '1999' gave me the courage to stand on my own two feet. It gave me the courage to leave. I knew my car wouldn't make it to New York, but I knew it could get me to L.A. Somehow it encouraged me to do that on my own, and it was scary, but I knew music was going to be my thing."
