Newly unearthed video footage of an 11-year old Prince being interviewed on TV has been stumbled upon by a team of journalists from Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis, who were reviewing archive footage for an unrelated story about teacher strikes.
Reporters from local news station WCCO said they were reviewing a clip from April 1970, in which several young kids were being interviewed about the teacher strikes at the time when one of the interviewees’ faces “instantly” stood out.
"I immediately went out to the newsroom and started showing people and saying, 'I'm not going to tell you who I think this is, but who do you think this is?'" Matt Liddy, production manager for WCCO, said. “Every single person instantly recognized the young face as Prince’s.”
Audio specialists were brought in to help recover the audio from the film, in which a young icon in the making, Prince, offers up a fair perspective, in support of the teachers, saying, "I think they should get a better education, too, because, um, and I think they should get some more money because they [are] working extra hours for us and all that stuff," he said.
