Tenacious D – aka Jack Black and Kyle Gass – beamed into Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week (September 22) for a socially distanced medley of “Save The World” and “Post-Apocalypto Theme (Reprise)” from their Post-Apocalypto album… noting how alarmingly prophetic the album had become since its 2018 release in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel prior to the performance.

They also spoke about being “responsible rockers” during the lockdown season, concluding the genre had been responsible on the whole, with the exception of 3 outliers, “You’ve got Kanye, you’ve got Smash Mouth and Kid Rock. But other than that, everyone’s on the same page.” (Noel Gallagher and Ian Brown may disagree).

But, staying true to their fantastical form, “We don’t live on Earth anymore,” Black confessed. “We think it’s safer up there in the Tenacious D space station.”

After the interview, the duo’s band materialised for a rocking medley of “Save The World” and “Post-Apocalypto Theme (Reprise)” which singer, Jack Black introduced staring deadpan into the camera with, “Save the world, Jimmy. It’s up to you.”

“Here’s the thing about Post-Apocalypto, we came up with this project four years ago,” Black said. “When Trump became President, we were like: ‘This is the end of the world.’ We have to save the world, with our rock.”

“The whole four years, we were like when it comes election time, we’re going to tour all the purple states, all the swing states to rock the vote and literally save the world. And this pandemic has totally screwed that up, so our plans have been scuttled… But the point is we’re here.”
