Weezer have gifted us with an angsty, distortion driven message of hope in this new video for “Hero” – a song from their upcoming album Van Weezer, which has been postponed in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The track is a classic Weezer power-pop anthem packed with super catchy riffs and heart on the sleeve emotions that falls nothing short of the joyous indie standouts the band have been delivering us for decades. Weezer have described “Hero” as a tribute to “the stay at home dreamers, the Zoom graduators, the sourdough bakers and the essential workers,” and was made with collaboration with Weezer fans who submitted short videos of it being passed along one giant chain. At the end of the video, the letter is finally opened to reveal a well-deserved, heartfelt message of thanks to essential workers who find themselves on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis. “Your bravery and selflessness are awe-inspiring,” Cuomo writes. “You are the reason we shall rock another day.”

The band's upcoming album, Van Weezer was originally set for release this month, but have announced that they will be pushing back the release date until there are more certain times ahead. “…we don’t want to give another release date until we’re absolutely sure of it, we’ll just say ‘stay tuned for more info,'” the band said. “In the meantime, we’re working hard on getting you all the new Weezer you can handle including music and more surprises getting announced later this week.”

Stay tuned!
