Renowned Australian rockers, Goanna are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their much-loved record Spirit Of Place, most notably featuring their iconic single Solid Rock. To mark the milestone, the band have reissued vinyl and digital deluxe versions of the album, featuring several bonus tracks. Stream/download, here.
The bonus tracks include Demo Session versions of That Day (... Is Comin' Sooner), Keep Believing, and In The City, as well as a remastered live version of Let The Franklin Flow, plus an original album outtake titled Back To The Wall.
Solid Rock debuted 11th November 1982 at #33 on the Kent Music Report and peaked #2 for 17 weeks. A remastered version of the Solid Rock music video has also been shared - watch below.

Reflecting on the album, Goanna frontman Shane Howard said, “It’s both extraordinary and humbling that Spirit Of Place, and the single Solid Rock (Sacred Ground), continue to resonate so deeply across Australia and beyond, 40 years after the release. It’s still a great sounding record. So much energy and effort, by so many people, went into making the album that continues to grow in stature, with the passing years.
“The album is full of light, idealism and youthful optimism, as well as hard-edged truth-telling, with its call for Indigenous recognition and rights. In this era of truth-telling and Treaty making, Solid Rock continues to speak to the present.”
The record's original release date - November 24, 1982 - will punctuate the band’s current national tour, ‘Goanna – Celebrating 40 Years of Spirit Of Place’. The massive national run will see the band play on over 25 stages across the country, running from June to November.
Goanna is also set to perform their iconic single, Solid Rock during halftime at the AFL Grand Final, joined by special guests Christine Anu, Emma Donovan, Tasman Keith, and William Barton. See the dates below!
