Gorillaz have teased (via social media) the next installment of their ongoing Song Machine series, revealing that the single will feature The Cure frontman, Robert Smith. The exciting news came in a tweet from Damon Albarn’s animated alter-ego reading: “Coming up on Song Machine… It’s @RobertSmith. Follow your nearest Song Machine NOW!”

Song Machine is a 10-episode project – with songs released sporadically – celebrating the Gorillaz 20th anniversary as a band. Since announcing season one of the series back in January, the band have teamed up with a stack of high-profile artists, including the unmistakable Joy Division/New Order bassist, Peter Hook. You can listen to the single featuring Hooky, here.
They’ve also been working on their first hardback annual – The Gorillaz ALMANAC, featuring 120+ pages of games, puzzles, new artwork and comic strips, published by Z2 Comics, set to arrive in October. Pre-order, here.
