On Saturday night (Jan 4), Nirvana’s surviving members reunited at Los Angeles’s Hollywood Palladium for the 13th annual Heaven gala. Other names on the bill included Marilyn Manson, L7 and Cheap Trick.

Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and guitarist Pat Smear were joined onstage by St. Vincent, who lent her vocals to opening number “Lithium,” and by Beck, who sang “In Bloom,” “Been a Son,” and Nirvana’s iconic MTV Unplugged version of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World.”

The show-stopping moment of the five-song set came when Grohl’s 13-year-old daughter, Violet, emerged onstage to sing “Heart-Shaped Box” with the band. Looking as grungey and Cobain-like as she sounded, Violet was a surprisingly fitting front person for the band her dad cut his teeth in decades ago. If the four world-class musicians also onstage made her nervous, she certainly didn’t let it show!
