Footage of late Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins’ son, Shane playing the drums on an emotional rendition of My Hero in honour of his father has been shared.

The teenager jumped behind the kit at a Laguna Beach block party over the weekend to perform the Foos’ 1997 hit with Laguna locals, The Alive

"When Taylor Hawkins’ son gets on the drums and dedicates the song My Hero to his dad," reads the video caption. "The hawk would’ve been proud."

Hawkins died unexpectedly while in Colombia on tour with the Foo Fighters in March this year. He was 50 years old.

Last month, Alanis Morissette paid tribute to Hawkins during a massive show at London’s O2 Arena. The singer is currently on the road for her Jagged Little Pill anniversary tour, two years postponed due to the pandemic.

Hawkins performed in Morissette’s live band prior to joining the Foo’s in 1997. She honoured her former bandmate with a charged performance of her 1996 hit, Ironic, during which images of Hawkins were displayed on a screen behind her, ending with a message reading, “In Memory Of Taylor Hawkins”.

In a 2018 interview with Beats 1, Hawkins said that he “be delivering pizza if it wasn’t for her [Morissette]”.

Shane Hawkins and Alanis Morissette are just some of many who’ve paid tribute to the late drummer, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney – just to name a few. The remaining Foo Fighters also have some upcoming tribute concerts, planned with the blessing of the Hawkins family, featuring special guests with a connection to the beloved musician.
