For this week’s edition of his ongoing ‘No Fun Mondays’ series, Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong has shared a cover of The Bangles’ “Manic Monday” with Bangles’s frontwoman, Susanna Hoffs. – via the internet, of course. Each played electric guitar to deliver a rock-infused rendition of the 1986, Prince-penned hit single.
The vintage-filtered video also features Armstrong’s dog keeping close watch from a couch cushion behind him. Watch below.
Billie Joe Armstrong: “Manic Monday” [with Susanna Hoffs]
Aside from learning new covers, Armstrong says he’s been using his extra downtime of late to work on new Green Day material. In a recent interview with Kerrang!, the frontman said:
“I’ve been writing a lot of music, and I had all these melodies in my head, so I wrote, like, six songs since all of this has been going on. I don’t know when I can get together with Mike and Tré, but I told them to make sure that they’re quarantined for now, and then I hope down the road we can get back in the studio with [producer] Butch Walker.”
The Bangles’ were an 80s hit machine! Along with the Prince-penned workaday lament “Manic Monday,” their catalogue is home to a stack of psychedelic, dreamy, power-pop singles. Listen to The Bangles on Spotify:
